I like to walk in the rain
So that nobody can see my tears
-Charlie Chaplin
Today marks four years since Jessica left this earth…and I am still learning to live without her. The
memories of her life are with me every moment of every day as her love dwells
deep within my heart. And as much as I
miss her, I do find that there are moments within my struggles when those
glimpses of happiness are a little easier to welcome into my life.
Just recently the lyrics to “Smile”, composed by Charlie
Chaplin, reappeared along my pathway - and my tears flowed freely as I
carefully read each line. The song, a personal “God wink” if you will, has now given those glances permission to breathe.
So to honor Jessica on this day I would like to share those
same words of encouragement with you because I believe that Jessica, who had
the most beautiful, shining smile throughout her entire journey, would be
telling us all “You’ll find that life is still worthwhile...”
Smile though your
heart is aching
Smile even though it's
breaking
When there are clouds
in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through
your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe
tomorrow
You'll see the sun
come shining through for you
Light up your face
with gladness
Hide every trace of
sadness
Although a tear may be
ever so near
That's the time you
must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use
of crying?
You'll find that life
is still worthwhile
If you just smile
That's the time you
must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use
of crying?
You'll find that life
is still worthwhile
If you just smile
Goodnight Miss Jessica.
I love you. Always.
